Wordless Wednesday - Signing Time

One of the few videos we let Charlotte watch is "Signing Time - Families, Feelings and Fun."  I bought if after reading a post of Hour 23 (written by a very talented childhood friend).  I wanted to continue the signing we started in speech therapy.  Here is a video of Charlotte signing "scared."  This girl is hilarious.  She still doesn't talk very much.  But she does sign to herself in the morning when I'm not watching.  :)

Wordless Wednesday

I know that a TON of blogs do a "Wordless Wednesday" feature.  They'll post a deep and meaningful photo with lots of natural light and contrast.  (I do enjoy them, by the way.)  Obviously, I have words in this post.  But I thought it was an appropriate title for my Charlotte update. 

Charlotte is now...wow...over eighteen months.  (How did that happen?!?!)  She is all caught up with other eighteen month old babies in height, weight, motor skills.  However, she is still lagging in the language department.  She can communicate.  She is very clear in letting us know what she wants - pointing, babbling, screaming very loudly.  But her articulation is just where a fourteen or fifteen month old baby would be.  She doesn't say any words (aside from "mama") or make any other hard constant sounds.  But I'm not terribly worried.  I think she will catch up when she's ready.  In the meantime, we've got hearing tests lined up, speech therapy sessions to attend (all under doctor's orders; I swear I'm not overreacting and being crazy mom).  I guess I should just enjoy the babble while I can.  When I can actually understand her, it might not be so cute anymore.  :)

Happy "Corrected" Birthday, Charlotte!

How many birthday celebrations can a little girl have?  In my daughter's case, three.  :)

Today is her *corrected* birthday.  She was born 10 weeks early so all of her developmental milestones for the first two years are based on her due date (in other words, her corrected birthday). 

Sadly, nothing exciting is going on today.  Charlotte's stick with either the cold or pnemonia.  We're not sure and Justin is taking care of her today at home.  I'm sitting at a Panera with free wi-fi since I have a pile of work that needs to get done and a needy sick child that won't let me finish it at home.  :(

But regardless, here's a cute little video of her from a few weeks ago doing some baby tricks.  :)

Roseola Infantum

Charlotte got sick this week.  She had a high fever of almost 104 for four days. We took her into the hospital twice.  They looked in her ears, tested her urine, touched her belly.  Everything looked fine.  Probably just a virus, they said.  We were just so scared.  Since leaving the NICU, this was Charlotte's first time getting sick and I had no idea what to do.  I called my sister a dozen times.  What do I do???

My sister, the super doctor pediatrician that she is, predicted roseola, a virus that causes a sudden high fever then, once the fever breaks, causes a rash to appear.  But the only well you can confirm a diagnosis of roseola is after a rash appears.  Well, big sister was right.  Charlotte's fever broke this afternoon and these red spots started spreading all over her body.  It's not contagious, painful or infectious.  Just not pretty.  Anyways, Charlotte's doing well now and we're looking forward to getting some sleep again.  :)

Despite the fevers this week, we were still able to get some laughs out of our baby girl.  Enjoy!
